Abstract:

Now in its tenth edition, Smith & Thomas has been regarded as the leading casebook on the law of contract by generations of students. It is also useful as a quick reference source for practitioners. The new edition follows the well-tested pattern of it's predecessors, in providing substantial extracts from cases, linked by notes, problems and questions, together with the relevant statutes. There is more emphasis on the relationship between contract and tort, including a leading case on contributory negligence in contract. Other new material includes the Unfair Terms Consumer Contracts Regulations 1994, which are compared in a note with the Unfair Contract Terms Act, and extracts from, or notes on, all the significant cases on the general principles of contract which have been reported since the last edition, including Re Select move, William Plc v. Cambridge County Council, The Pioneer Container, Ruxley Electronics and Construction Ltd V. Forsyth and Co-operative Insurance Society Ltd V. Argyll Stores (Holdings Ltd). 1996 - Cover illustration: Illustration reproduced with kind permission of the National Gallery.
