Social Reconstruction and Community Development in the Face of Violence and Conflict in South Africa
This article focuses on the extent to which violence and conflict in South Africa has spurred community disintegration on the one hand and accelerated the need for social reconstruction and development on the other. The context in which a development and reconstruction programme will be implemented is examined. The nature of the violence and conflict sweeping the country and its impact on both communities and community workers is discussed. The challenges facing community workers and the development field are highlighted within the changing social and political context.
