National elections held in Somalia on 8 February were a milestone in the normalisation of the strife-torn country, Africa's perennial 'failed state'. This step was offset by the Islamic militant group al-Shabaab's continuing terror activities and a medley of environmental, humanitarian and social crises, including a looming famine. ACM discussed these developments with Erika Lafrennie, a former US Intelligence Analyst whose expertise includes Somalia. She is a Founding Partner of the Luminae Group.
