Sustainable Development through Innovation and ICT Entrepreneurship in Africa

In contemporary times, with all the economic, social, environmental issues, knowledge is the principal origin and cause of innovation, sustainable worth and wealth. This is because innovative thinking and strategies with the help of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) give rise to the reliable, credible and plausible solutions the world needs. The advancement and productive use of knowledge while inculcating ICT is therefore, becoming one of the crucial mechanisms of value creation for organisations for societies. This means that within the entrepreneurial sector, ICT compliant professionals are becoming the driving force of innovation and are instrumental to success. However, these professionals will perform this role greatly if they can work from their individual and unique drive and talents, take initiative to improve and better themselves through the adoption of Information and Communication Technology. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to identify the importance of ICT entrepreneurship and its impact(s) on sustainable development. The study employed the thematic method of analysis and, through an extensive review of extant literature as well as the analysis of relevant secondary data, finds that the increasing importance of the sustainable development agenda has aided in the development of new trends in innovation and entrepreneurship, especially about environmental friendliness and socioeconomic growth in Africa. This study is particularly significant owing to the impact innovation, and enterprises have on the African economy and the environment since they influence the creation and implementation of new consumption models that foster sustainable development.
