Abstract:
2004 is the year when Africa won its seventh Nobel Prize for peace. Out of the seven Nobel Peace Prizes, four were for racial conflicts. These four all went to South Africans (Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and F.W. DeKlerk). Two other Nobel Peace Prizes went to issues of inter-state conflicts (Anwar Sadat’s and Kofi Annan’s). The latest Peace Prize has gone to a crusader for the environment (Wangari Maathai).
