Abstract: 

Youth streetism in the City of Polokwane, Limpopo Province in South African has been steadily growing without much effort taken by the provincial government to eradicate this social phenomenon. The City of Polokwane is considered as the economic hub of Limpopo Province. Young people continuously leave their home and live in the street of the City of Polokwane hoping for a better life. The aim of this paper is to explore contributing factors to youth streetism and the expectations of the South African youth of the new dawn under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa. The study employs qualitative research methodology to explore the experience of these youth in a social setting. This article made use of non-probability purposive sampling the researchers chose the participants based on the common characteristic which is being lived on the street. The findings revealed that family conflicts, discrimination and lower grades at school were among the contributing factors to youth streetism in the City of Polokwane.
