Does financing agriculture sustain economic growth in Africa? Implications for Africa Union's Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP)
Does financing agriculture sustain economic growth in Africa? Implications for Africa Union's Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP)
Despite its economic growth aspirations embedded in the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme and allied policies, Africa still grapples with low, partial, or non-agricultural financing compliance. This study x-rays the cause and effect of the goal. From the 21-years data sourced from ReSAKSS, AfDB, EDGAR, and the World Bank and the use of the panel estimation path, these findings are reported. First, individually, selected countries demonstrate significant and positive efforts towards the goal in the long run. Whereas, jointly, it is the opposite at both the short- and long-run outcomes, as affirmed by Wald's test. Likewise, the absence of a granger causality among the variables is reported. With this outcome, it is evident that the present joint agreement contains a technical hitch. Therefore, there is a necessity for a re-design (pattern, application, and methodology) of the financing pattern that reflects the funding of the agricultural arm with the most contributory impact.
