Abstract:

The paper presents an econometric model of investment in Cameroon, including the period of its oil windfall discovery. This facilitates the calculation of the responsiveness of domestic investment to the supply of medium term credit in the domestic banking sector, and thus the return to using oil revenue to increase domestic liquidity. The result challenges the received wisdom about Cameroon, that its government's policy of using the revenue to purchase foreign assets was an optimal response.
