Abstract:

Referring to the manner in which creative writing has been prejudiced in South African universities - as regards teachability, accreditation, research funding, and marketability - it would appear that a deep-rooted skepticism continues to be disseminated throughout the ranks of many English departments, reaching to the student body. This essay examines the effects of such institutionalized prejudices and the schism that has been created between creative writing outputs against literary research outputs.
