Likely Participants in Unconventional Political Activities in Nigeria
Likely Participants in Unconventional Political Activities in Nigeria
Participation in political activities is a critical aspect of social development because it leads to highly sensitive decisions and choices that provide direction for society. The paper examines the factors associated with participation in unconventional political activities (UPAs) in Nigeria. The social contagion theory was adopted to guide the study. Data for the study were generated using a web-based survey of 888 respondents from Lagos and Cross River States. The test of the association between the dependent and independent variables was done using the chi-square test. The results indicate that age, gender, education level, and religious affiliation were statistically significant for unconventional political activities. The findings presented in the paper provide evidence of the individuals who are more likely to participate in unconventional political activities in Nigeria. Authorities in Nigeria should dissuade the suppression of unconventional political activities through the use of extrajudicial molestation and witch hunts.
