Abstract:

Maintainable management of public housing property and that for the benefits sustainability in Nigeria is unquestionable because of the persisting deplorable conditions of public housing property, resulting principally from the lack of a sustainable post-construction management strategy. Both qualitative and quantitative instruments in research were adopted and the results interpretation embraced a triangulation stance, using content analysis techniques. Effective integration of the: essential sustainability factors; appropriate estate management method; appropriate housing maintenance management approach; and relevant stakeholders' involvement; should improve social (public) housing estates situation. An operational framework for the post-construction management of public housing property for the benefits of sustainability in the built environment is proposed. Reconnoitring these areas assists to underscore the necessity of the relevant stakeholders' inputs in public housing property post-construction management. It further assist to changing the current unsustainable cultural attitudes of public housing authorities staff in housing management to more sustainable ways in Nigeria.
