Abstract:

The impact of the Russia-Ukraine crisis on the economic difficulties in Nigeria was investigated in this study. The study's aim was to determine whether Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine has anything to do with Nigeria's economic crises. The economic crisis in Nigeria has been substantially driven by the conflict, which has had an impact on the costs of important commodities as well as everyday living expenses. The study used survey and documentary data collection techniques. The center-periphery model served as our theoretical framework, and our method of data analysis was founded on the logic of content analysis, which is best suited for the study. Our research demonstrates that the invasion of Ukraine was motivated by historical imperialism, as well as the US's refusal to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. This invasion added to Nigeria's already terrible economic predicament, which the Buhari administration was responsible for starting. According to our research, the invasion caused around 6.7 million Ukrainians to escape, but it also resulted in the biggest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II. Among other things, we suggested that the European Union (EU) and the UN's permanent members unite to urge Vladimir Putin of Russia to view Ukraine as its younger political sibling, a practice that dates back to when both nations were governed by the USSR.
