Youth Empowerment, City Integration and Rural-Urban Migration in Anambra State of Nigeria
This paper argues that while the major cause of rural-urban migration in Anambra state, like in the other cases is the pull of attraction of good lives in the urban cities (employment opportunities and other potentials for acquiring means of decent living, modern infrastructural facilities, education, etc), the setting of Anambra state can encourage retaining people in their rural communities with proximity to the urban and semi-urban towns. To achieve smooth retention in the rural areas, the youths as the main population that migrates need to be empowered into useful ventures in their villages while the barriers in movement between the cities and the rural villages in the state need to be bridged by conscious trans-connects. This will develop the state into one integrated city-state called a "mega-polis" and stem the tide of rural-urban migration. As an exploratory study, the paper relies on the qualitative method of reviewing previous papers and using the current records in the state for data generation and on the Systematic Review Technique for data analyses.
