The African Union-Led Contributions and Challenges of African Countries in Resolving the Sudanese Darfur Crisis : An Afrocentric Perspective
Africa has become a victim of civil wars and such wars have a negative impact on the development and economic growth of the continent. Thus, in 2001, the African Union (AU) which replaced the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established with the main purpose of maintaining peace in Africa, so as to achieve greater unity, cohesion and solidarity among the African countries, and to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of its Member States. Most scholars have not given much attention to the economic and political challenges of the AU as a peacekeeping body in Africa. This led to this research, tackling the issue as the AU is the most vital institution in Africa. This was informed by numerous studies discovered which only paid attention to the Darfur crisis with no alternative angle from the challenges facing the AU.
