Abstract:

If you are a busy trainer, eager to check out and put into practice the activities of this book, you won't want to spend too long reading a lengthy introduction - so I'll keep it short. This book is intended for use by any professional trainer or manager who is already well versed in basic assertiveness skills and familiar with the principles of assertiveness training. It does not, therefore, offer detailed information on theory, terminology, or techniques. Of course, formal trainer input on these elements is necessary in any session or course of training in assertiveness, and should be followed by practical application of techniques, and skills practice. This book provides a comprehensive selection of activities that will test participants' understanding of assertiveness. Activities relate to both personal and work situations, so application can be varied. Almost all are stand-alone activities which can be used as a dip-in resource to supplement your training programmes. Some activities are better run in a sequence, and guidance is given on how to link them to create more comprehensive training sessions. Together, the activities include most of the elements you need to run a complete course on assertiveness. The book has been written with the busy trainer in mind, and every help has been given to reduce preparation time to an absolute minimum. The activities have step-by-step instructions, with detailed processing guidance including relevant questions you might wish to put to your group.
