Abstract:

This volume which is the third in the author's series on the Ghanaian economy examines the performance of the industrial sector, emphasizing the manufacturing sector and the policy and institutional framework within which the sector has functioned, the constraints to the growth and expansion of the sector, especially since the beginnings of the Economic Recovery Programme in 1983. It also examines some of the issues of factor use discussed in Volume 2, empirically examining the issues of factor intensity, factor substitution, x-efficiency, and technology choice within an imperfectly competitive environment within the Ghanaian context, as well as inter-firm linkage. Like the two earlier volumes, this third and final volume in the series is full of insights and would make an essential reading to policy-makers and students generally.
